About Alex

I’m Alex Busse, and thesmartplate.org exists because I got tired of nutrition claims that don’t survive five minutes on PubMed. I read the study before I repeat the claim. When the evidence is solid, I say so. When it’s one small trial dressed up as settled science, I say that too.

Where this fits

I’m a nutritionist, and everything here is a plain-language read of published research: general information, not individualised medical or dietary advice for your specific situation. For anything about your own health, talk to a qualified professional. Thefull disclaimer has the unabridged version.

How I research this

Every myth verdict, trend takedown, and deep-dive traces back to at least one real, linkable source — usually a peer-reviewed study, a systematic review, or an official guideline document, not a secondhand summary of one. I grade the evidence honestly: a claim backed by a meta-analysis of 40 trials gets treated differently from one backed by a single 12-person study, even if the headline conclusion is the same. The full process is on themethodology page.

The rest of the work

I write and build a few other sites too, if you want the recipes or the practical side:
